英文解釋

終於遇到令人尷尬的問題了。

那天秘書拿份文件要我填寫，裡頭有nationality國籍欄，
我很習慣地填上Taiwan (ROC)。

秘書問我什麼是ROC，我告訴他是Republic of China。

「What？China？You told me you are Taiwaness.」

「Ummm...Yes, I am Taiwanese and I come from Taiwan. But...」
我還在思考要怎麼回答。

「But your nationality is China.」
秘書打斷我的回答，她的臉看起來就非常驚訝。

「Around 70 years ago, there was a civil war in China. （civil war這個字是我從美國隊長英雄內戰學來的，我也不知道這樣用對不對，反正管他的。） The government of Republic of China lost the war to People's Republic of China. Then the ROC government moved to Taiwan but still advocated it owns mainland China.」（講這段的時候，我覺得自己語無倫次）。

「What？」不知道是我英文不行，還是這個狀態讓他意外，秘書的眼睛瞪得更大了。

「Ummm.....」我還在想要怎麼進一步解釋。

「That's OK. You look worried. Do you want to have lunch?」
其實老外也只是隨口問問，我們就一起去吃午餐了。

要是再問下去，我可能要跟他講 Ninety-two consensus........
